Swing for outdoor facility at Hugo youth centre

Brief description of the proposal

The outdoor area of the youth centre HUGO is located very visible, directly at two streets and consists to a large extent of an empty meadow area, on which there was only one play element until a year ago. Furthermore, the youth centre is located in Jena-Winzerla. In the district there are few public places and retreat areas for young people. Therefore, the area directly adjacent to the youth center Hugo offers a high potential to create an appealing place to stay for young people aged 12-27 years sustainable and attractive.

Already in 2019, young people aged 14 to 21 exchanged ideas on the redesign of the outdoor area in the context of an ideas workshop and agreed on various (play) elements. For example, hedges planted around the existing area are desired to create a place of retreat and reduce the visibility of the area. Fruit trees and the creation of a flower bed were also suggested. Fixed seating elements will encourage people to meet and relax. Other ideas include a basketball hoop, double swing, trampoline and fire pit. The suggestion of a fixed pavilion was particularly outstanding. Young people can retreat here undisturbed and spend time outside, even if the weather changes or is bad.

Since not all ideas can be financed at once and exceed the budget of the youth centre, the project participants worked out a priority list for the implementation of their suggestions. With the construction of a wooden pavilion and the erection of a herb spiral, the redesign of the area in 2020 was set in motion. The next play element on the wish list is the swing. A swing frame is to be installed that is particularly suitable for young people and young adults, meets the requirements of DIN EN 117 and is suitable for public leisure facilities.

The implementation of the desired measures is to take place in the period from 01.01. to 31.12.2021 with the help of appropriate specialist companies on the outdoor facility at the Hugo Youth Centre. Any follow-up costs for the maintenance of the play equipment in subsequent years will be financed by the applicant.
