Children and youth team should not paddle with "weights" anymore

Submitter

Brief description of the proposal

Have you ever paddled before? With a dumbbell bar?

We often feel like that. The children and young people of the first and only canoe polo team in Thuringia - the Polokemons of the JENAER KANU- und RUDERVEREIN e. V..

For some time now, our team has been built up and trained with a lot of verve and commitment by our voluntary trainers. The first equipment was mainly provided by the club itself, but also our parents and sponsors contributed to the purchase of boats, life jackets, helmets, spray blankets and paddles.

Unfortunately, due to limited funds, only the simplest paddles could be purchased so far.

Our junior team, 10 to 16 years old, is therefore struggling with the heavy paddles at every training session and every match. We are talking about a paddle with a weight of 1.3 to 1.4 kilograms. Doesn't sound that much now. But if you imagine that some of the Polokemons only weigh 30-35 kilos, it looks different. In relation to this, an adult would have to move a paddle of over 4 kilos!!! Now how does that sound to you.

Add to that, most other canoe polo teams fly across the water with a lightweight paddle of less than 800 grams. That would be something for the polo demons. That would make practice and play a lot of fun. New players would have a much easier time getting started.

The problem is: such a paddle costs around 300 € - and for the complete team we need 10 to 12 pieces. So all in all 3000 to 3600 Euro. That is not feasible for our club at the moment.

Therefore, we apply for this purchase for a part of the citizen's budget 2019 of Jena and wish that we can leave our heavy paddles soon on the shore.

Costs

3.600 €
